My Visit to Auchentoshan Distillery🌾🥃

I thought it would be interesting to experience a distillery tour since I was working with a whisky company to gain a deeper insight into how the products I was working on are created.

For my first-ever distillery experience, I visited Auchentoshan - a Single Malt Scottish Whisky brand. Click here to read more about the brand!🥃

I visited with my dad who has been a whisky lover for years. This was also his first distillery experience which made it even more exciting!

This brand is not owned by Whyte & Mackay, however, the distillery is local to where I live so my dad and I decided to visit!

Since we had very little knowledge, we booked the Origin Tour (the perfect introduction). However, there are a variety of tours available to choose from which best suits your level of knowledge.

Let me know in the comments if you've ever visited a distillery!🏭

While waiting for the tour to begin, we spent time looking around the gift shop🛍🥃

The shop sells a variety of the brand's products as well as a range of branded merchandise like glassware, water jugs and even traditional handmade shortbread!

When the tour began, we learned all about the production process🌾🥃

We had a fantastic tour guide who clearly and enthusiastically explained each stage of the process to us.

This is the mash tun where the original malted barley is mixed together with hot water🌾💧

These are the fermentation vessels where the product will undergo fermentation.

These are the copper stills where the product will concentrate and develop its flavour.

Fun fact: whisky is typically only distilled twice. However, at Auchentoshan it is triple distilled, producing strong notes of fruits and citrus.

(although there are only 2 in this photo I promise there is a third to the left😂)

This display showcases the different types of casks they use such as American oak and sherry, where the product will undergo maturation.
Fun fact: it must mature for a minimum of 3 years and 1 day for it to be considered a whisky🥃

This is the warehouse where they store all the barrells.

To end the tour we had a tasting at the bar🥂

Have you ever tried this brand? Let me know in the comments!

Since I visited this distillery for an introductory tour, it has sparked my interest to visit another brand's distillery! Next on my list is Glengoyne, which is also near to where I live!

After reading this, would you like to book a distillery tour?
