My Experience Completing the Internship👩🏻💻
Last summer, I completed an Internship with Whyte&Mackay, a Scottish Whisky company which allowed me to explore a new industry which I have fallen in love with!
My First Day...
The Internship was based at St Vincent Plaza in Glasgow.
This was my first time working in an 'office job' and as a young student who is used to working in part-time retail jobs, it was a whole new experience - but I loved it!
However, I wasn't in the office 5 days per week. My role was hybrid which means I also worked from home a few days every week - I also loved being able to work from home!
Have you ever worked in an office? Leave a comment below and let me know your experience...
The Internship program involved a group of 10 individuals seeking experience. Our first day allowed us to get to know each other. We ended up forming a close relationship and even organised a few nights out!🍸
On our first day, we received a warm welcome, an introduction to the company and a welcome pack (including a free bottle of Whisky!🥃) followed by a free lunch at the bar!
Then, I had a one-to-one meeting with my manager to discuss my plan for the summer which made me even more excited to get started!
Have you ever completed an internship or recently started a new role? If you have, please let me know what your first day was like in the comments below!
What did my role involve?
I worked with the Channel Marketing team, focusing on On-trade, Specialist Retail and E-commerce marketing activity.
On-trade and Specialist Retail🍸- My main role was to communicate and collaborate with agencies to create artwork for pubs and bars or specialist whisky stores.
Although I was involved in various interesting projects, my favourite was supporting the creation of stands for whisky shows! (look out for a blog post about this soon☺️)
E-commerce 💻- I worked with a member of my team to optimise the company's Amazon listings which was very interesting. Although I learned a lot of new information during my time on the internship, this project was particularly interesting as I was able to see what goes on behind the scenes, digitally.
The whole internship experience was incredibly insightful and challenging, allowing me to grow both personally and professionally and I am grateful to have been part of it with a fab group of people! I hope to have another opportunity to work in the industry again in the future🤞🏼.
If you enjoyed reading about my experience in this role, look out for my next blog post which will be all about the company's brands!🥃 🪵✨

DeleteI think hybrid working is a joy and here to stay. I wonder, however, how easy interns and graduates find it to network, grow their careers and learn on the job via virtual calls versus being physically in an office with their full team?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your views, Fiona!
