My Learnings of the Company and the Industry✨💡

Since completing an internship with Whyte & Mackay, I have become totally fascinated with the industry and all things spirits!

As a young woman who doesn’t particularly enjoy drinking alcohol (especially whisky!), it was great to have the opportunity to learn and view the industry from a different perspective.

Whilst working at Whyte & Mackay, I had the opportunity to work with knowledgeable professionals who provided me with brand-new information about the company as well as the spirits industry.

During the first week of the Internship, all the interns attended several brand induction meetings presented by the Brand Managers. They each gave us an overview of their brand which I found very interesting as each brand is unique.

Whyte & Mackay's portfolio is made up of a variety of well-known brands such as Jura, Tamnavulin, Fettercairn, The Dalmore and The Woodsman, along with many more!

Have you ever heard of these brands? Let me know in the comments below!

The Woodsman🪵🥃

The Woodsman, the newest brand on the portfolio, is a particularly oaky blended Whisky (as you might expect from the name) with notes of vanilla, designed for use in cocktails and mixed drinks.

Fun fact: This brand has an award-winning TV Advert!

Let me know in the comments what you think about the advert!🪵

The Dalmore🦌🥃

The Dalmore is the most premium brand on the portfolio in competition with brands such as Glenmorangie or The Macallan!

Fun fact: The Dalmore 49-Year-Old Luminary No.2 'The Rare" recently sold for $95,000!!

Click here to read more about The Dalmore Luminary Series✨

How much would you spend on a bottle of Whisky?🥃 Let me know in the comments below!

Interns Advocate Day🥃

During the Internship, we attended a cocktail-making session with a Specialist!

Whisky enthusiasts may say that whisky should only be drunk neat. However, my favorite way to drink Whiksy is in a fun cocktail!🍸 (My personal favorite is a Whisky Sour!🍋)

Do you drink Whisky? What's your favorite way to drink it? Leave a comment below!☺️

We each created our own version of a Dark 'n' Stormy which typically uses dark rum, but we substituted it for 25ml of Jura Rum Cask and I highly recommend it!

Recipe📝🍸

Fill a glass with ice

Add 25ml of Jura Rum Cask

Squeeze in some fresh lime!

Fill the glass with ginger beer

Add a few drops of Angostura Bitters

Garnish with a mint leaf and enjoy!

Let me know if you would try this cocktail in the comments below!🍸

After our cocktail-making session, we had a tasting and history lesson for the two brands Fettercairn and Tamnavulin. I enjoyed learning about them as they were the two brands I worked with least!

We enjoyed a dram of Fettercain 18-Year-Old (£150 per bottle!) and Tamnavulim Sherry Cask which was my favourite!

How many of Whyte & Mackays brands have you heard of or tried?🥃 Let me know in the comments...

As well as learning about the brands on their portfolio and different ways to enjoy the spirit, I also had the opportunity to attend brand planning and market research sessions with my team.

As a business and marketing student, I found it equally as fascinating to learn about current activity within the industry and discuss competitors' activity.

This opportunity has opened my eyes to a whole new industry which I have fallen in love with and I'm keen to find another role within the industry in the future that will allow me to continue learning!

  17. Interesting read, and very well presented, particularly brands that aren't as known in the drinks industry, compared to the Dalmore, and other known blended brands. What i did particularly like was the nice cheeky suggestions of cocktails on offer .
It's both educational, informative and suggestive to both the Connoisseurs of many brands and the average consumer.

  18. It sounds as though you really enjoyed your internship Sara which is fantastic! I hadn’t heard of the Woodsman but like the sound of it. My favourite whisky cocktail is an Old Fashioned. I became a whisky fan when my daughter was lucky to have an internship at Whyte & Mackay and remain a fan!
